Provimi acquired the pet food company Nama in Slovakia

Provimi (listed on the Euronext Premier Marché in Paris), one of the global leaders in the animal nutrition business, today announces that it acquired the pet food company Nama in Slovakia. This acquisition illustrates Provimi’s strategy of increasing its activities in pet food and strengthens its leading position in Central and Eastern Europe.

Nama spol s.r.o. is the number one dry pet food producer in Slovakia, located in Dunajsky Klatov, south of Bratislava, close to the border with Hungary. The company currently employs 36 people and has an annual production capacity of 15,000 tonnes. 75% of Nama’s pet food is produced under private label and 25% under Nama’s own brand.

Through this acquisition Provimi further improves its already leading market position in this region, in the specialty channel as well as in the food retail channel.

Nama offers a number of synergies to Provimi, such as the extension of the European production network, so that better service can be provided to the local and international customers, and better export possibilities to Hungary, the Ukraine and other Balkan countries.

Nama can also take advantage of Provimi’s wet pet food production to complete its product range and benefit from Provimi’s joint R&D activities.

The Provimi Group is active worldwide in all types of animal nutrition and is a leader in all markets where it is present. It employs over 8,000 people and had sales in 2003 of over €1.5 billion.

Provimi has more than 100 production centres in some 30 countries and exports to over 100. Provimi manufactures products and supplies technical support for all species, including ruminants, poultry, swine, fish and pets.
